{Isobel} We remember - Moments in time

She stroked the scar along the palm of her hand, and looked up at her childe.
"Do you remember when we received this, Richard?"
Richard nodded as he regarded her, his eyes slightly cautious. She smiled sadly at his wariness as she continued.
"It seems like such a long time ago. So much has changed, too much has changed. Princes are meant to last decades, centuries, cities are meant to be stable..."
"Isobel, change comes more quickly in this day and age. It unnerves the elders, I think, that it comes so swiftly."
"It unnerves us."
"But we're more used to it."
She studied him, his face so young, still so human.
"Are we?"
He looked at her again, with that strange mix of caution and worry.
"You and I were born into this fast changing world, Isobel."
She smiled again, her lips marking lines of distant sorrow.
"We are not as we once were."
