{Isobel} Revelations - Moments in Time
Jul. 28th, 2006 10:17 pmIsobel searched the court, not quite desperate, but coming to that point as she quested unsucessfully. She was certain she had set the bible down somewhere safe, but now it was nowhere to be found. She scanned the crowd again, and saw Mikhail's head, bent over something of interest. He had been with her when she last remembered having Gabriel's book with her. Perhaps he would know.
She came upon the little corner where Mikhail sat, almost like a hermit or a secret visitor, and blinked a little in the light.
"My Lord Mikhail, have you seen-"
She paused as her vision cleared. Mikhail sat, head bowed, carefully reading the bible that he cradled in his warrior's hands like some precious, delicate treasure. His eyes were alight with interest, and a slight smile curved his lips as he looked up from his reading, breaking the moment.
"Yes, Isobel?"
She cleared her throat as she sat down beside him, carefully considering her next words, and gestured to the book.
"Are you enjoying it so far?"
Mikhail shrugged a little and nodded. "It is very interesting. Not quite what I expected."
"You mean you have never read the Holy Book before?" Isobel's brows knitted slightly as a note of disbelief crept into her voice. Mikhail shrugged again.
"I have not had the time to do so. I thought perhaps now would be a good time to start, yes?"
"There is no time like the present. But, my Lord, if I may?"
She carefully reached out and took the bible from him.
"Do not start here. This is not our book, it is the book of mortals. Here-"
From her pocket she pulled a copy of the Testament, meticulously transcribed by hand from the copy Inquisitor Abidan had given her at the beginning of her path.
"-start with this. It is the Testament of Longinus, and was written for us. I think you might find it much more useful."
And as Mikhail nodded, taking the book with careful respect, Isobel smiled genuinely for the first time that night.
